What’s the experience like?

You don’t really get used to that first step off the platform — even if you tell yourself it’s just a zipline. At Coral Crater in Oahu, I remember my palms were sweaty as our guide, Keoni, double-checked my harness and grinned like he’d seen this a hundred times. The air smelled like sunscreen and wet leaves. There was this family from Seattle behind us, joking about who’d scream loudest (it was the dad, actually). The whole thing felt part playground, part jungle — not what I expected so close to Honolulu.

We zipped three lines in about an hour. Each one felt different: the first was pure nerves, the second I started noticing how green everything looked below, and by the third I was actually laughing. Keoni kept tossing out little facts about native plants and how fast we were going (faster than I thought). You don’t have to brake yourself — they handle all of that — so you can just let go and look around or yell if you want. My helmet kept sliding down over my eyebrows; not sure if anyone noticed but it made me laugh midair.

I still think about that last view before we touched down — sun coming through the branches, someone’s sandal thudding onto the landing deck. It’s quick but weirdly memorable.
