What’s the experience like?

The first thing I noticed stepping out of Danang Airport was the thick, humid air — and then, right away, a guy holding my name on a sign. He waved like he actually meant it, not just doing his job. Our driver (his name was Minh) helped with my bag before I could even fumble for the handle. The car smelled faintly of lemongrass, or maybe that was just my imagination after the flight. Either way, it felt good to sit down somewhere cool and quiet after all that airport noise.

I’d read about this private transfer from Danang Airport to Hoi An and honestly wasn’t expecting much — but Minh chatted in easy English about where he grew up outside Da Nang, and pointed out the Marble Mountains as we passed them (they really do look like giant lumps rising out of nowhere). He offered cold bottled water without making a big deal of it. At one point I asked if we could stop for a quick photo; he just nodded and pulled over like it was nothing. No rush at all.

The drive took less than an hour, but I remember watching the colors shift outside — rice paddies turning gold in the late afternoon light, scooters zipping past with whole families balanced on them. Minh mentioned he sometimes brings his own kids this way on weekends. There was something calming about knowing someone local had your back after a long haul flight. When we finally pulled up to my hotel in Hoi An, I almost forgot how tired I was. That first ride set the tone for everything else that week.
