If you’re after something different near Cat Ba Island, this half-day rock climbing tour at Moody Beach is worth it. You’ll get expert guidance, real adventure—even if you’ve never climbed before—and views over Lan Ha Bay that stick with you long after your arms stop shaking.
The first thing I noticed stepping onto Moody Beach was the salty breeze—kind of sticky on my skin, but it woke me up fast. The limestone cliffs looked taller than I’d pictured from the boat, with little pockets and cracks that our guide, Hieu, pointed out as good handholds. He’s done this route hundreds of times and made it sound easy, but honestly, my palms were sweating before I even put on the harness.
We started with a quick safety talk (nothing too formal), then Hieu showed us how to tie in and double-check each other’s gear. The first climb was about 12 meters—just high enough for your legs to wobble a bit when you look down. There’s this moment halfway up where you can hear the waves slapping against the rocks below and someone from our group laughing nervously behind me. At the top, you get a wild view across Lan Ha Bay—fishing boats drifting past and those odd-shaped karsts poking out of the water.
Lunch was simple but hit the spot: rice, fresh veggies, some grilled fish wrapped in banana leaf. We sat under a tarp while our shoes dried out in the sun. If you want more action, there’s an option to paddle around by kayak or SUP in the morning—gliding past floating houses and through quiet lagoons where everything echoes back at you. But honestly? Even just hanging out on that beach after climbing felt like a win.
Nope! Beginners are welcome—our guides explain everything step by step and set up all climbs for you.
Just wear comfy clothes and closed-toe shoes. We provide all climbing gear and lunch.
This tour suits anyone with moderate fitness but isn’t recommended for young kids or those with certain health issues.
Please let us know ahead of time—we’ll do our best to accommodate your needs for lunch.
