Ever wondered what Sorrento smells like away from the main piazza? It’s not just lemons—though those do sneak in everywhere. We met our guide, Giulia, on a quiet corner where laundry flapped above us and you could actually hear birds instead of scooters. She waved us down with a grin and right away it felt less like a tour, more like being invited to someone’s neighborhood for lunch.

We zigzagged through narrow lanes I’d never have found alone (I’m directionally hopeless), past locals chatting in that sing-song Italian that makes everything sound cheerful. Our first stop was this tiny trattoria—no sign outside, just the smell of tomato sauce drifting out the door. Giulia explained how parmigiana di melanzane is basically everyone’s nonna’s pride here.
