What’s the experience like?

I still remember how quiet it got as we left Venice behind. Our driver chatted about growing up between Treviso and Conegliano, and I kept watching the city fade in the rearview mirror. The air changed—less salty, more green—and then suddenly we were winding through these soft hills. Our guide, Francesca (she’s a sommelier but not at all stuffy), pointed out tiny villages clinging to the slopes. She laughed when I tried to pronounce “Valdobbiadene”—I definitely didn’t nail it.

The winery itself felt like someone’s home. Not big or fancy—just honest. We walked right into the vines, shoes crunching on gravel, sun warm on our faces. Francesca picked up a grape leaf and showed us how to tell if it’s ready for harvest. There was this faint smell of earth and wildflowers—hard to describe but really comforting. Inside the cellar, her uncle waved from behind some barrels; he looked busy but still grinned at us.

Tasting Prosecco here is nothing like back home. Francesca poured four styles (one was so dry it almost made my eyes water), explaining each one without making us feel dumb. The cheese and salami came out on wooden boards—simple, local stuff that just worked perfectly with the wine. There was a vegetarian plate too (my partner was relieved). Someone asked about buying bottles direct from the producer, and her aunt wrapped them up with newspaper strips—no fancy packaging, just care.

After lunch we had time to wander outside or just sit by the window looking out over those rolling vineyards. It wasn’t rushed at all—I actually lost track of time for once. On the way back toward Venice, I kept thinking about that sunlight on the grapes and how different Prosecco tastes when you’re drinking it where it’s made. Hard to explain why it hits different until you’ve done it yourself.
